The reinforcement role
In an aggregate base, a geogrid can help restrain lateral movement through interaction with the aggregate. The benefit depends on the grid, fill, subgrade, loading and construction conditions; it is not a fixed property of every grid or every installation.
Separate the material functions
An open grid is not automatically a filtration or separation layer. Some pavement arrangements need a separate geotextile or other specified layer. FHWA discusses these distinctions in its guidance on base reinforcement.
Confirm the project requirements
The pavement designer must establish the material specification and suitable design approach. Do not assume a thinner base, longer service life or lower cost without project-specific evaluation.
Translate the specification into production inputs
For machinery selection, provide the finished-grid drawing, strip material and dimensions, aperture layout and joint requirements. Add the intended output and test criteria. A welding or extrusion proposal follows these production requirements; it does not replace pavement design.
Source and scope
This is a general application introduction. The linked FHWA reference supports the distinction between reinforcement and other geosynthetic functions; it is not certification of a Ruimin product or a particular road project.
